Fe₂O₃: Pick is one of seven images in a series that delves into the deeper themes of transition and time by capturing the raw, enduring beauty of oxidation. At its core, the series seeks to unveil the silent story of time's passage, where the relentless interaction between iron, air, and moisture transforms metal surfaces into an intricate landscape of color and texture. Through this visual exploration, rather than viewing corrosion as deterioration, Fe₂O₃ reframes it as an intricate dialogue between destruction and creation, where rust becomes a testament to time's slow, deliberate artistry.
It's a series where each image captures this transformation through a meticulous approach to light, shadow, and tone. The warm, earthy hues of oxidation are emphasized through controlled lighting, while a carefully applied duotone process deepens these rich colors, intensifying their contrast against the surrounding darkness. This technique not only enhances the depth and texture of the compositions but also brings a heightened sense of drama, drawing the viewer into both the fine details of the grooves and flecks of rust and the various metal objects themselves.
Ultimately, Fe₂O₃ stands as a tribute to nature's artistry, a visual poem that reminds us that beauty is not confined to pristine surfaces or unblemished forms. Instead, it is found in the marks left behind and in the textures that tell a story—a history etched into metal by the elements, revealing a landscape shaped by time itself.
