Building on the foundation of the An Abyss of Glass project, which immerses viewers in a mesmerizing world of floating shapes and contours created through the ethereal interplay between color, highlights, and shadows on various glass objects. An Abyss of Glass & Color expands the original project with the dynamic addition of color. This new 10-image series continues to evoke the sensation of peering into an endless void, where light, form, and now color interact in a delicate balance of order and chaos.
Inspired in part by Jan Grover’s meticulous compositions— where objects and the spaces they occupy create compelling relationships—this project takes that influence in a new and unexpected direction. Rather than simply relying on the layered objects to build depth, “An Abyss of Glass & Color” harnesses the luminous highlights and color reflected off the glass. It is an approach that transforms the interaction between light, shadow, and color into a complex, ever-shifting visual dialogue, inviting viewers to engage with both the individual elements and the dynamic connections between them.
However, rather than simply borrowing from Grover’s techniques, the unique shooting process sets this project apart. Captured from beneath a sheet of glass, the layering begins at the picture plane itself, creating a sense of dimensionality that does not extend outward but instead recedes into a visual abyss. The result is a dynamic composition that alternates between structured precision and a seemingly chaotic cacophony of chaos—an immersive exploration of depth, reflection, and spatial tension.
